MULLER,

"German Indologist who, as editor of the Sacred Books of the East series, was active in publishing translations of Buddhist texts, and who published some interesting research of his own on Buddhism.

Following his doctorate from Leipzig in 1843, he studied Sanskrit and philosophy at Berlin, eventually leaving for Paris in 1845. There he met Eugene Burnouf who fueled Muller's interest in Indology. Muller also learned Pali, and set about to conduct research on Theravada Buddhism. Renowned for his work on the history of religions."
