三智


Three kinds of wisdom. There are numerous sets of these in various texts, so one must be aware of context. (1) the three wisdoms of the wisdom of dharma 法智, the wisdom of particular things 比智, and worldly wisdom 等智. [阿毗昙毗婆沙论 T 1546.28](2) the three wisdoms of the wisdom of omniscience 一切智, the wisdom of types of paths 道种智, and the wisdom of the wisdom of omniscience 一切智智. These are associated with /sra^vakas, pratyekabuddhas and bodhisattvas, respectively. [四教仪注] (3) The wisdom attained by listening, the wisdom attained by thinking, and the wisdom attained by practice. [瑜伽论 T 1579.30.690a1] (4) The three kinds of wisdom taught in the Dazhidulun : the wisdom of the two vehicles, which understands the individual aspects of phenomena 一切智; the wisdom of the bodhisattva 道种智, which understands the total aspect of phenomena and the wisdom of the buddhas, which is perfectly enlightened in regard to every aspect of phenomena 一切种智.
