五根


(pan~ca-indriya): I. the 'five faculties.' The five faculties, or organs of perception. They are the faculty of sight 眼根, the faculty of hearing 耳根, the olfactory faculty 鼻根, the faculty of taste 味根, and the tactile faculty 触根. In Consciousness-only theory, they are considered as part of the a^laya consciousness. II. The 'Five Roots of Goodness:' (1) xingen 信根 the root of faith; (2) jinggen 精根 the root of effort; (3) niangen 念根 the root of mindfulness; (4) dinggen 定根 the root of concentration; (5) huigen 慧根 the root of wisdom. The five roots of goodness are listed among the 37 Aids to Enlightenment 三十七道品.
