（1） Originally an abbreviation of the transcription of sam!gha （僧伽）， referring to the whole community of monks and nuns. （2） That which belongs to， or is of the sam!gha. （3） Later， in East Asian usage， comes to refer to individual monks and nuns， but earlier it refers to a group of more than 3-4 monks or nuns.
