The six consciousness， which are the function of the six organs 六根 of eye 眼， ear 耳， nose 鼻， tongue 舌， skin 身， and reasoning 意 in their apprehension of the six objects of form 色， sound 声， smell 香， taste 味， touch 触 and symbols 法， attained in the acts of seeing 见， hearing 闻， smelling 嗅， tasting 味， touching 触 and knowing 知. In Yoga^ca^ra Buddhism， there are further underling consciousnesses beyond these six 二识.
