The four grave crimes （Skt. pa^ra^jika; Pali pa^ra^jika） of sexual intercourse， stealing， killing a human being and lying about one's spiritual attainments; transcribed as 波罗夷. The commission of one of these offenses by a member of the clergy can result in expulsion from the sangha.
