（va^rsika）; 'peaceful dwelling.' A meditation retreat. Originally the rainy season of three months， from the 16th of the fourth month to the 15th of the 7th month， during which monks stay in their monasteries， concentrating on study and practice. These dates vary for later sects， but it is still a period of time for the monk to remain in the monastery to do concentrated study and practice.
