（1） To burn incense. （2） To hold a stick of incense between one's fingers and light it in the fire. It is also a ritual wherein a newly installed monastery head ascends to the dharma-seat， prays for the well-being of the emperor and temple supporters and thanks the Buddha and the patriarchs for their compassion.
