(1) To receive, accept, take in. Esp. a reference to the broadminded acceptance of the Buddha and his dharma to bring in all kinds of suffering sentient beings into the fold of the sangha. There is also a reference to the open-minded acceptance of the opinions of these people, as contrasted to 折伏, the Buddha's forcing of ideological opponents into submission. (sam!graha) (2) To bind down, hold down. (3) The salvation of sentient beings through great compassion. (4) To draw into, pull into. (5) To get, obtain, grasp, get hold of. (anugraha) (6) That which is gained or possessed. (parigraha).
