无著


Asan%ga. Also translated as 无著 and transcribed as 阿僧伽. A great exponent of the Yoga^ca^ra School who was a native of Gandha^ra in north India in the fourth century CE. Born as a Brahmin's son, he first followed "Hi^naya^na" 小乘 but was later converted to Maha^ya^na 大乘. He composed numerous discourses on the Yoga^ca^ra philosophy and practice, including the Maha^ya^na-sam!graha-/sa^stra 摄大乘论 and Prakarana^ryava^ca-/sa^stra 显扬圣教论. In the Tibetan tradition, he is also attributed with the authorship of the Yoga^ca^rabhu^mi-/sa^stra 瑜伽师地论. Myth says that he often visited Tus!ita Heaven to receive the teaching from Maitreya. His younger brother Vasubandhu 世亲 further developed Yoga^ca^ra doctrine.
