A transliteration of the Sanskrit manas， usually translated into Chinese as 意. In Consciousness-only theory， the manas is the seventh of the eighth consciousnesses 八识. It is regarded as the fundamental locus for the creation of mistaken views of self （我癡， 我见， 我慢） and the afflictions which result from such mistaken views.
