"Matching the meanings." The name given to a translation technique during the earliest period of the translation of Indian Buddhist texts into Chinese. Indian terms such as /su^nyata^ were rendered into Chinese with comparable concepts such as "wu" 无， resulting in misunderstandings of the original Buddhist meanings.
