The path of meditation of which there are generally two kinds. The first is called the 'bodhisattva meditation' as first transmitted by Kuma^raji^va 鸠摩罗什 and analyzed in detail by Zhiyi 智顗. This is the method as explained by the scriptures. The second is the meditation outside the scriptures that is transmitted from mind to mind as in the Chan tradition of Bodhidharma.
