道宠


Daochong (dates unclear). A Northern Wei 北魏 monk who is considered, as the student of Bodhiruci 菩提流支, as the founder of the northern branch of the Dilun school 地论宗. He entered the sangha at the time when the Northern Wei emperor Wu was supporting the study of Buddhism, and the two masters Bodhiruci and Ratnamati 勒那摩提 were translating and explicating the Da/sabhu^mika-/sa^stra 十地经论. He is recorded as having many students, including Sengxiu 僧休、Faji 法继、 Danli 诞礼、 Laoyi 牢宜、 and Ruguo 儒果. He was a contemporary of Ratnamati's student Huiguang 慧光, who is understood to be the founder of the southern school of Dilun. [续高僧传卷七、释氏六帖卷十、高僧摘要卷一]
