"Non-returner." A transliteration of the Sanskrit ana^ga^min, translated into Chinese as 不还 or 不来. A Hi^naya^na sage who has fully severed the afflictions of the desire realm and may be reborn into the form realm 色界 or formless realm 无色界, but will not again be reborn in this world of desire 欲界. The third of the four fruits 四果 of the /sravaka path. This term has its origins in pre-Buddhist Upanishadic literature, as the name of a sage who had attained freedom from rebirth.
