露地

'Dew-laden ground,' 'outdoors,' 'outside.' An outside where there is nothing. (2) To sit in an uncovered spot (a^bhyavaka^/sika) (3) The realm of freedom from defilement. A condition of not being infected with the passions. This meaning comes from the use of this term as a metaphor in the story of the burning house in the Lotus Sutra. When the father was able to get his chi^dren to leave the house, it was outside that they saw the Large White Ox Carts. So 'outside' comes to represent a place of peace of mind cut off from the afflictions of the triple realm.
